2 Reasons why Honesty is so Important

This piece comes as a result of a personal experience of mine in which I found myself lying for the first time and I regret it to this day.

Honesty is often described as moral correctness or being upright with another human being and speak your mind freely no matter the consequences…

And here I am, having done none of it explaining to you why you should indeed be honest. There we go:

1. You have more to lose.

all credits to quotefancy

It may be kinda cold, but it’s pure facts.

Having spoken the truth no-one cares.

In fact, even if they care, they will most likely be upfront with you and either say something straight to your face or walk away.

Which is fine because you will be proud of yourself for being so brutally honest, almost not terrified of the truth you have just told.

And here comes the sad part.

If your lie is revealed, even by a misfortunate accident,
then you are screwed.

You have no chance of making things right, even though you wish you could in any possible way and the world doesn’t seem big enough to hide yourself.

That image of yourself that you and others have created doesn’t exist anymore just because you couldn’t embrace the truth.

Speaking facts only will make you braver, stronger and possibly luckier than ever before. Unfortunately it is something I’ve learned the hard way…and it is so painful.

2. Regret is a Bitch

Overcome your fear to earn peace of mind.

To any of you who might know me well, that may come as no surprise.

But here, I’ll say it again.

I have no regrets. Ever.

I don’t make excuses. Ever.

If there’s something that I want to do, I give my all and set sail to achieve every single goal of mine.

That’s why I’m writing these lines, that’s why I lied…

And I didn’t ever expect that I could regret something to this day.

But, I have regretted my lie. Over and over again. For the things I have done, I have never felt sorry. Just for the things I haven’t.

And this brings me to my next point.

Which is the biggest one here.

I keep wondering what could have happened if I haven’t lied. And this kills me.

It’s itching and it doesn’t go away anytime soon.

There is nothing worse for a person who wants to be in charge of his/her life than having to dwell on your past.

And if you do lie,

you will regret it.

3. Summing up

However, you know that I love upfront conclusions more than anything else.
So, I will say it. It doesn’t matter.

Past is past and there is a reason why it’s left behind.

Great things will eventually pop up if you are the great person you have always been.

These times are the ones that give you the strongest lessons.

So, forgive yourself first,

let the other people involved forgive you and pick yourself up once again.

Because if you ever thought, even for a moment that this magic journey has ended, well you’ve been fooled.

PS. I’ve recently read somewhere that asking for forgiveness without change in behaviour is worthless. And I couldn’t agree more.

To anyone it may concern,

I am sorry.
