2 Things to Consider before Upgrading your Tech
Do you really need a new phone ?
Nowadays we live in an era that every year all companies try to convince us that it is worth upgrading and spending our hard — earned cash in every single new piece of tech that they release each time.
However, is it worth it?
Here are two determining factors that will help you realise if you really need a new device or an upgrade..
1. Will it really improve the quality of your life?
It is really noteworthy how many times the answer to this question is still no.
And quite possibly it will still remain a no. And that’s frankly ok.
It is quite normal to be honest.
Every single technology product we use in our everyday life since a breaking point has dramatically increased its effectiveness.
Quite honestly whatever you buy that has been recently (2–3 years) released,
it will be ok.
It might not pass every single test with flying colours or rock your world in every single benchmark, but as long as it gets the job done, you’re good to go.
And here comes the greatest part.
Even if it is going to actually improve your life, then you have to ask yourself how much it will really benefit your true productivity potential and your everyday habits.
There is actually a scale that can help you measure your device’s effectiveness in comparison with the time it takes to load certain apps.
So, if it is indeed taking you loads of time to navigate through the ecosystem and get the job done, then you should probably upgrade to a newer model.
Because at the end of the day, if you don’t manage to get things done, then you’re out of luck my dear.
These are the facts.
So, to conclude, will it make your life better?
If yes, then think no further.
If not though, then I’d say it’s better for you to wait just a bit longer.
That way, you can perhaps elongate the lifespan of your device and maximise the potential use of it instead of rushing to get the latest and greatest.
If that’s the case, it is the best way for your machine and for your own money.
Will it really make your life better? Just think about it.
2. Can you REALLY afford it?
Well, it all comes down to money, doesn’t it?
I have a very simple rule that I force myself to implement every single time I can actually proceed from the first step to this simple question.
And this force of habit comes from one of my favourite YouTubers, Matt D’ Avella.
He supports that this mindset significantly affects every decision of ours in terms of whether we can actually afford something or not.
And he is honestly so right.
So, he states that for every buy we proceed on we have to be in possession of the total price of the product we’re looking forward to buy multiplied by four times.
So imagine you want to buy a smartphone that costs 700€. Then, you’ll have to set aside 2800€.
You can take it for what is worth.
But, it has significantly improved my everyday problem making decisions and practically made my life a bit easier.
By just skipping buys obviously haha.
I really hoped that these practical advice indeed helped you guys and remember:
If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.
